Preperations for Hiring a Removal Company

Booking a furniture removals company can be a daunting prospect, as they are essentially looking after your possessions. Therefore it makes sense to carefully consider which company to use and conduct a little bit of research to ensure your possessions will be well looked after and that you are getting the best service possible. Here are 5 things you should consider prior to booking with a removal company to help you prepare for the big day.

1. Cost

Getting the best deal will always be high up on the priority list. Many companies offer special discounts and deals, so it's worth having a chat with them or visiting their website to see whether you can save money. Also have a look at their insurance cover and see whether you can increase or decrease the cover costs to meet your own specific needs.

2. Equipment

Some companies work out of small vans and rely purely on manpower whilst others have larger trucks with lifts on the back to help remove your furniture safely. Think about what equipment they use and whether it will help to protect your possessions during transit and removal. When visiting a company or calling them, just enquire about how they plan to move your furniture and if possible have a look at the vehicles they will to use.

3. Employees

How employees act generally gives an accurate indication of how the company operates and views its clients. Have a look at the employees when you visit the company's branch and see how they conduct themselves. Do they seem to enjoy their work and take pride in it? Do they seem friendly and respectful when talking to potential customers? Feeling at ease with the people that will be taking care of your possessions will help to alleviate some of the stress of moving and allow you to focus on more important matters.

4. Reputation

Always conduct some background research online. Have a look at customer reviews where possible, but be careful not to rely solely on feedback found on the company's website. Have a look to see whether the company has won any awards for their service, if so then have a look into how they won those awards and what it says about them as a business.

5. Rapport

Finally listen to your gut feeling and establish whether you feel comfortable with the company. Do they deserve your service and do you have faith that they will work hard to make your move as easy as possible?

A little research goes a long way and with moving houses being one of the most stressful things you can do, this will help to make the move just that little bit smoother and easier. Always ask around and see whether friends or family have used the company before and if you ever feel uncomfortable just look elsewhere.
